‘The Last Shall Be First’ is proverbial! However Jesus never exactly said, ‘The Last Shall Be First.’ Here is one example of what he said:
And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the narrow gate: for many. I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door; and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you [yourselves] thrust out. And they shall come from the east, and [from] the west, and from the north, and [from] the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
The Last Shall Be First
Could this simply mean that even though Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, will be in the Kingdom of God, there will be others? There will be people of the East, the West , the North and the South? Some of those will be among the first? And some of the sons of the three patriarchs will not? Enter at the narrow gate, the gate of humility!
Even the Apostles had once disputed who was thee greatest amongst them! Jesus said to them (Mark 9: 35) , ‘If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.’
Then, Mark 9: 36 & 37, he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, ‘Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.’
Jesus said (Luke 18: 14), ‘every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted,’ instead of the Last Shall Be First.
And (Luke 18: 15 to 37) they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw [it], they rebuked them. But Jesus called them [unto him], and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.’
Innocence, innocence is the key! We have to receive, not enter, the Kingdom of God! We have to receive it. as if we were little children! Little children do not know of first and last. We have to be free of sin, free of the Original Sin. Read the chapter on the Original Sin in Greetings from Paradise!
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
