It is the Second Advent. A time of peace. Abraham was a man of peace. How did God raise up children unto Abraham?
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptised of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
Children Unto Abraham
God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham! So, who are the children of Abraham? Just people, who keep peace. For example in Gen. 13 there was strife between the herdmen of his cattle and Lot’s cattle over pasture. Then Verse 8, ‘Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we [be] brethren.’ And he let Lot chose a place and he then went elsewhere with his cattle.
Or also in Gen. 14 Abram had freed the King of Sodom. The king in return offered him rich reward and only asked for his people to be given back to him. Abram said (verse 23), ‘I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich.’ So, people who act like that, those are the children unto Abraham.
But how could God raise children unto Abraham out of stones? Gen. 18: 14, ‘Is anything too hard for the LORD?’ What does that mean? 1. Peter 2: 5, ‘Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.’ We all are those stones, the building blocks of Christianity!
But we are not Abraham’s offspring!
No we are not. Abraham was infertile! So how did God raise children unto Abraham? He raised spiritual children through Jesus Christ and his teachings. If Abraham was infertile, how did he raise Isaac?
This is explained in the Speculations on the Birth of Isaac!
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
