Travel in the Name of Christ
How should we travel in the Name of Christ? How should we travel in the Name of Christ from place to place? How should we travel in the Name of Christ through life?
Luke 10: 1 to 9: After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
This is not just about travel. This is also about
Who would go and travel without a purse, travel bag (scrip) for provisions, and travel barefoot. Not to salute anybody probably just means to be focussed on the destination of your travel. Carry peace with you. Say, ‘Peace be with you,’ when you enter into a house. When have you said that last?
Enter into a house and eat and drink such things as they give, for
The Labourer is Worthy of his Hire!
Heal the sick. Touch them! The article Forgiveness of Sins explains that the Ancients thought that sin brings on disease. They didn’t know about germs. To them disease was due to the wrath of God.
Then there were slaves which had been brought up to look down as in ‘Les Misérables’. These were lonely people, suppressed and dejected. Nobody cared for them. A human touch could bring them healing and comfort, could give them a sign, love is also for you! You once were lost, but now you’re found by somebody!
Can we travel like this through our lives? Can we forget the economic pressures and do good alone? This is hard, particularly, if we have to provide for a family! But (Matt. 10: 24), How hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!?
Should we Travel Alone?
Most certainly not!. The Apostles didn’t . Even the Apostles had Sex! It says so outright in 1. Cor. 9! They did travel with a sisterly woman who accompanied them for their carnal needs, the needs of the skin, for touching! A Christian Community would keep and care for a pregnant woman and give the Apostle another one when he would travel on. We should not travel alone from place to place. We should not travel alone through our lives. The chapter ‘In the Beginning’ in Greetings from Paradise, explains that the divine touches between man and woman were the image of God mentioned in the creation of man in Gen. 1: 27.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding!
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
